* All specimens should be cooled,
frozen, or delivered as soon as possible to your taxidermist.
* Roll your fish in plastic wrap to
remove any air and if possible roll the tail portion of the fish in cardboard to
protect the fins. Then place in a plastic bag to freeze.
* Place birds head
first into a nylon stocking or panty hose to protect the feathers.
* Never cut the throat on a big
game animal that you wish to have mounted. When you cape your trophy--cut around the
chest area behind the shoulders and cut down the back of both front legs and detach the
hide at the knee. The final cut will be up the center of the back to about 3"
or 4" from the base of the horns. Detach the head from the carcass and freeze
or deliver to your Taxidermist.
* If unable to freeze or deliver
the hide promptly--immediately remove all meat and fat, then liberally salt them down
using non-iodized salt.
* Please feel free to call
or stop by our shop for free field care and skinning advice.
All tanning is
accepted at owner's risk only. We have no control over any skin or trophy prior to
our receiving it for tanning and/or mounting. Many factors have a definite effect on
the final results of tanning, such as primness, time of year, climatic conditions - hot or
cold - and the care given the skin in the field when it is killed. Occasionally a
skin will not tan or goes to pieces in the tanning due to improper handling before
shipment to us or to some defect in the skin for which we cannot be responsible. For
these reasons, we cannot assume any responsibility or offer any guarantee for the tanning
of any skin.
